In short

ISO 45001 certification in Nuremberg at a glance

Safety management has to work where transformers weighing hundreds of tonnes are built and then lifted onto inland vessels. Siemens Energy is expanding its Nuremberg transformer plant with about 350 new jobs, and the heavy-cargo and combined-transport operations at bayernhafen Nürnberg bring cranes, rail wagons and lorries near people on every shift. ISO 45001 supplies employers and contractors with a shared method for finding hazards, controlling risk, involving workers, investigating incidents, preparing for emergencies and reviewing results. An accredited certification body issues the certificate. Served from Sterling's Frankfurt office, Sterling develops the system with the people who do the work and trains them through Sterling Academy. Statutory duties are outlined on the Germany page.

You are prepared for emergenciesEmergency situations are identified, response plans are in place, people are trained and drills are carried out.
Incidents lead to learningIncidents and nonconformities are investigated, causes are corrected, and performance is monitored, audited and reviewed.

ISO 45001 in Nuremberg: questions clients ask

Do contractors at large Nuremberg plants need ISO 45001?

Plant owners want evidence that an outside firm controls its own risks. Some accept a certificate, others use their own prequalification questionnaires, so ask the party engaging you which route applies. Where a certificate is recognised it can speed approval, though it never replaces the site's induction.

What does ISO 45001 add for heavy-cargo handling at the port?

A system for lift planning, vehicle and pedestrian separation, contractor control, incident learning and emergency response, evidenced by records that auditors can check. It does not replace statutory duties. For tenants it also helps in tenders where customers ask for proof of safe handling.
