In short

AS9100 certification in Bangladesh at a glance

One Bangladeshi instrument bears on AS9100. It does not name the standard. So why do buyers in Bangladesh keep asking for the certificate?

Nothing in Bangladeshi law mentions AS9100; it travels down a supply chain, from an aerospace prime to the machining shop, electronics assembler or repair business that wants the work. Precision manufacturers in the export processing zones run by BEPZA may aim at such orders, but a zone address does not carry the requirement, and public tenders under the Public Procurement Act, 2006 set their own evidence. The certificate comes from a certification body approved under the aerospace sector's scheme, so check approval as well as accreditation, and ask the customer which bodies it recognises. Sterling's Mumbai office helps suppliers build configuration management, first-article, special-process and counterfeit-part controls and run internal audits, with Effivity software and Sterling Academy training included with the engagement.

The need

Who needs AS9100 in Bangladesh, and what happens without it

In Bangladesh the question rarely comes from a law. It comes from the buyer, the regulator or the partner that wants proof before it signs. These are the organisations that get asked.

  • Precision machining and fabrication shops with aerospace ambitionsAerospace primes pass AS9100 down as a purchase condition, so a shop must show the sector system before it can bid.
  • Electronics and cable-assembly manufacturers targeting aviation and defence programmesProgramme customers audit suppliers against sector quality requirements, not general ones.
  • Maintenance and repair businessesAviation customers expect a quality system built for the sector.
  • Manufacturers in export processing zones aiming at aerospace ordersBEPZA hosts diversified manufacturing, but a zone location does not itself bring the standard.

AS9100 requirements in Bangladesh

Strip away the vocabulary and AS9100 asks a supplier to prove six things about delivering aerospace products safely and on time.

Product safety is managedRisks to product safety are identified and controlled throughout the product's life, from design to delivery.
Configuration is under controlThe approved configuration of each product is identified, changes are controlled and records match what was delivered.
Counterfeit parts are kept outPurchasing, inspection and supplier controls stop counterfeit or suspect parts from entering the product.
Operational risks are managedRisks to delivery and product conformity are assessed and controlled during planning and production.
Production is proven before it runsProduction process verification, such as first article inspection, confirms that processes can make conforming product.
Delivery and conformity are measuredOn-time delivery and product conformity are measured, and human factors are considered when nonconformities are investigated.

In Bangladesh these six sit alongside the local laws and regulations listed under drivers below; one system can evidence both. The detail is on the global hub: AS9100 explained →

How Sterling gets a Bangladeshi company certified

How to get AS9100 certified in Bangladesh

One team from the Mumbai office carries the work from scoping to certificate. Clients across Bangladesh are served from Sterling's Mumbai office, on-site where the work needs it and remotely otherwise.

    1. Discovery call and scopeEntities, locations, regulators and target date, agreed before any proposal.
    2. Gap assessment against AS9100 and the Bangladeshi requirements that apply to youControls you already run for your regulators and customers are reused, not rebuilt.
    3. Your system built with your team in EffivityRisks, controls, evidence, incidents and reviews in one live system the auditor can see.
    4. Internal audit, management review and corrective actionsYour internal auditors trained by Sterling; the evidence proven before the certification body arrives.
    5. Certification body stage 1 and stage 2, then surveillanceAn accredited body audits and decides. Sterling supports the audits and the three-year cycle.

      Time

How long does AS9100 certification take in Bangladesh?

There is no standard duration: it depends on your scope and on how much of the system already runs. In Bangladesh these are the factors that set the timeline.

      • Customer flow-down requirements and special-process approvals
      • Configuration management, first-article and counterfeit-part controls
      • Internal audit and corrective action maturity
      • Availability of an aerospace-approved auditor

Sterling agrees a dated plan with you on the discovery call, once the scope is known.

      Cost

How much does AS9100 certification cost in Bangladesh?

The cost has two parts: the consulting work to build and prove the system, and the certification body’s audit fees, which are quoted separately. In Bangladesh these factors move both.

      • Scope: number of sites and special processes
      • Customer-specific audits running alongside
      • Certification body audit fees quoted separately from consulting
      • Traceability, inspection and records upgrades

Sterling gives one customised, all-inclusive proposal after the discovery call, never before the scope is agreed.

        Choosing a partner

AS9100 consultants and certification bodies in Bangladesh

Two different organisations are involved. A consultant helps you build the system and prove it works; an accredited certification body then audits or assesses it and decides. Keeping the two separate is what makes the result credible to buyers and regulators.

        • Check that the body’s accreditation or approval covers AS9100 and your sector, and that its certificates can be verified online.
        • Ask the consultant how the local requirements in Bangladesh are mapped into the same system, so nothing runs twice.
        • Ask for client references in your sector; Sterling’s client letters are available on request.
        • Agree who owns the evidence and the tool after the engagement; with Sterling the system stays yours, in Effivity.

Laws and regulations that drive AS9100 in Bangladesh (3)

          InstrumentHow it treats the standard
Customer flow-down in the aerospace supply chainScheme rule
No Bangladeshi statute names AS9100; the requirement comes from the customer's purchase conditions.
          Bangladesh Accreditation BoardAccreditation
The national accreditation body; aerospace certification also depends on approval under the sector's own scheme, so confirm with your customer which certification bodies it accepts.
Public Procurement Act, 2006 (Act No. 24 of 2006)Expected in practice
A tender document decides what quality evidence a public aviation or defence-related buyer wants.

"Expected in practice" means the instrument asks for the outcomes AS9100 covers without naming a standard, and AS9100 is what buyers and regulators commonly accept as evidence of them.

Accreditation, audit language and remote audits in Bangladesh

AS9100 certificates come from certification bodies approved under the aerospace sector's own scheme, so accreditation alone is not enough: confirm with your customer which bodies it accepts. Ask any candidate for its accreditation certificate and its approval status in that scheme, and read the scope. Edition and transition details: AS9100 hub →

          Audit language

Buyer standards, export documents and most management system records are in English, and Bangla is the state language under the Constitution; interviews with workers and supervisors are normally in Bangla. Agree the audit language, any interpreter and the language of controlled documents with the certification body at application.

          Remote and on-site

Audits are on-site at production and inspection areas; document review can be partly remote.

AS9100 in Bangladesh: questions clients ask

Does any Bangladeshi law require AS9100?

No national statute names it. The requirement arrives through the aerospace customer's purchase conditions or a tender that asks for sector quality evidence. Read the purchase order or bidding terms, and ask the customer which certification bodies and scheme approvals it accepts before you commission an audit.

Is an ISO 9001 certificate enough for aerospace work?

Usually not. AS9100 adds sector requirements such as configuration management, first-article inspection and counterfeit-part prevention, and customers audit against them. ISO 9001 is a sensible foundation, but ask your prospective customer whether it will accept your current certificate or requires AS9100 from an approved body.

          Does BEPZA require aerospace certification?

Nothing on BEPZA's site makes AS9100 a condition of operating in a zone. The zones host industries from garments to diversified manufacturing, and an aerospace order would bring its own supplier requirements. Treat the standard as a customer matter and confirm any zone conditions with BEPZA.

What decides the cost of an AS9100 project?

Scope drives most of it: the number of sites and special processes, customer audits running alongside, and upgrades to traceability, inspection and records. The certification body's fees are quoted separately from consulting. Ask the body for a quote against your actual scope, and agree with the customer which audits can be combined.
