In short

ISO 14001 certification in London at a glance

Environmental questions in London are practical ones: freight emissions on the Thames, waste from food production at Park Royal, energy use across Royal Docks workspace. ISO 14001 gives a firm a managed way to answer them, and a certificate that tender evaluators can read at a glance. ISO 14001 sets out an environmental management system: identify environmental aspects, meet compliance obligations, set objectives and improve performance over time. Sterling prepares the system from its London office, with Effivity and Sterling Academy included; the certificate comes from an accredited certification body, and national rules sit on the UK page. National law, regulators and accreditation detail sit on the United Kingdom page rather than here.

ISO 14001 in London: questions clients ask

Which London businesses most often certify to ISO 14001?

Freight, logistics, manufacturing and food firms are the usual candidates, because their activities carry clear environmental aspects such as emissions, waste and effluent. Contractors working on large London developments are also asked for it. Whether it is required depends on the contract and the client's own policy.

Does the Thames Freeport require ISO 14001?

No. Freeport status gives tax and customs advantages, but government guidance says rules and regulations in a Freeport match those elsewhere in the country. Environmental certification is a customer or tender choice. Check the terms of any site lease or incentive with the Freeport body or your adviser.
