What we do here

Everything a Sterling engagement includes, delivered from Toronto.

The Toronto office delivers the same engagement as every Sterling office, for Canadian organisations and for Canadian sites of international groups. Workshops, document reviews and coaching run remotely; consultants work on site where observation or in-person work is needed.

  • Scope, gap analysis and implementation plan

With responsibilities, dates and decision owners, agreed before work starts.

  • Process development and documentation

Tailored to your operations, on Sterling's own template sets, built with your process owners.

  • Effivity ISO & GRC software

Your system runs in Effivity from day one, included with the engagement at no additional cost.

  • Training for everyone

Internal auditor training for your audit team, as applicable to your standard, and preferential Sterling Academy access, including complimentary awareness training for your people as part of the engagement.

  • Internal audit and management review

Conducted or facilitated as agreed, with findings closed with evidence before the certification body arrives.

  • Certification readiness and support

Preparation for Stage 1 and Stage 2, and support until the certificate is issued.

Certification decisions remain with the independent certification body.

Standards in demand

What Canadian organisations are asked for most.

Requests to the Toronto office usually begin with a customer questionnaire, a supplier agreement or a regulator. ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 27001 remain the most common starting points, and ISO 9001:2026, published on 16 September 2026, is the edition first-time implementers now build to. Manufacturers of class II, III and IV medical devices sold in Canada need MDSAP certification, an audit programme based on ISO 13485, as Health Canada requires. Businesses that handle personal information in commercial activity work to PIPEDA, which has no certificate; ISO/IEC 27701 is a certifiable way to show your privacy controls work.

FAQs

Questions clients in Canada ask before they engage us.

The specific answers for your organisation come from the discovery call. These are the general ones.

Where is Sterling’s office in Toronto?

Sterling’s Toronto office is in First Canadian Place, 100 King Street West, Toronto. The quickest way to reach the team is canada@sterling-grc.com, and a consultant replies within one working day. Meetings at the office are arranged in advance, and most engagement work is planned so that your team does not need to travel.

Does Sterling issue the certificate?

No. Sterling does not certify, accredit or attest. An independent certification body audits your system and decides on the certificate; in Canada, the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) accredits certification bodies. We prepare you for the audit and help you choose a body whose accreditation and scope suit your customers, and you can check both on the accreditation body’s register before you sign.

Is there a PIPEDA certification?

No. PIPEDA is a law, not a certifiable standard, and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada oversees compliance. It sets ten fair information principles, from accountability and consent to safeguards and individual access, and requires breaches that create a real risk of significant harm to be reported to the Commissioner. Sterling helps you build and evidence that programme, often alongside ISO/IEC 27701 or ISO/IEC 27001.

We sell medical devices in Canada. What certification do we need?

Health Canada requires manufacturers of class II, III and IV medical devices sold in Canada to hold MDSAP certification. MDSAP is a single audit programme based on ISO 13485, run by auditing organisations that the participating regulators of Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan and the United States recognise. Sterling builds one ISO 13485 quality system designed to meet the MDSAP audit, so the same records serve each participating market.

Are software and training included in a Canadian engagement?

Yes. Your management system runs in Effivity from day one, included with the engagement at no additional cost. Your audit team receives internal auditor training, as applicable to your standard, and your organisation gets preferential Sterling Academy course access and special pricing through your consultant, including complimentary awareness training for your people as part of the engagement.
