In short

FSSC 22000 certification in Durban at a glance

Dube AgriZone describes itself as Africa's first integrated perishables supply chain: a farming, processing and export platform inside the Special Economic Zone, with cold chain handling and cargo access at the airport next door. For processors and packers on that chain, FSSC 22000 is the certificate retailers and export buyers recognise. It combines ISO 22000 with prerequisite programmes for your food-chain category and additional scheme requirements, including food defence and fraud controls, and it is benchmarked by the Global Food Safety Initiative. Sterling's Johannesburg office takes you through the gap assessment, builds the documentation with your production team and prepares the audit by an accredited certification body.

FSSC 22000 in Durban: questions clients ask

Does a packhouse in Dube AgriZone need FSSC 22000?

Not because it sits in the zone: AgriZone's investor pages describe serviced sites, incentives and customs-controlled status, not a food safety scheme. The requirement comes from the buyer. Ask whether they accept ISO 22000, FSSC 22000 or another benchmarked scheme, and which food-chain category your site falls under.

How do export-minded Durban food firms choose between FSSC 22000 and ISO 22000?

Start from the importing customer's specification. A scheme benchmarked by the Global Food Safety Initiative is often named by large retailers, while others accept ISO 22000. If both are acceptable, ISO 22000 is a lighter first step, and moving up to FSSC 22000 later adds the scheme's extra requirements.
