ISO 17025 accreditation in Amsterdam at a glance
When a laboratory's number decides a cargo's value or a study's credibility, the question is whether anyone else can rely on it. Amsterdam has both situations: Amsterdam Science Park runs research in life sciences, high-tech systems and materials, and sustainability, while the port handles fuels, minerals and agricultural goods that customers expect to be tested. ISO 17025 accreditation answers the reliability question by assessing competence in the methods you actually use: validated methods, measurement uncertainty, traceability, impartiality and result reporting. Accreditation is granted by the national accreditation body, not by Sterling. Sterling prepares a laboratory by closing gaps in method validation, uncertainty budgets, quality records and internal audit before the accreditation assessment.

ISO 17025 in Amsterdam: questions clients ask
Which Amsterdam laboratories pursue ISO 17025 accreditation?
Those whose results others depend on: research and testing groups at the science park that serve industrial or regulatory customers, and analysis services used by traders and terminals at the port. A purely academic lab may not need it unless a funder or partner asks for it.
Is ISO 17025 accreditation the same as certification?
No. Accreditation is a formal recognition of technical competence for specified tests or calibrations, granted by an accreditation body after assessment. A management-system certificate does not say a laboratory's results are valid. Scope matters, so define the exact methods you want assessed.
