In short

SOC 1 attestation in Kochi at a glance

A Kochi back-office team that processes a foreign client's invoices, or an Infopark firm hosting a billing platform for customers, becomes part of those customers' financial reporting. Their auditors then ask the provider for a SOC 1 report: an attestation by an independent CPA firm that describes the service, management's assertion and the controls relevant to financial reporting, with an opinion on design and, in Type 2, operation over a period. Sterling does not issue the report. It helps the provider decide the scope, write control descriptions, remediate gaps, gather evidence in Effivity and rehearse walkthroughs so that the CPA firm's examination runs in an orderly way.

SOC 1 in Kochi: questions clients ask

When does a Kochi provider need a SOC 1 report?

Once a customer's auditor says it cannot rely on a Kochi provider's payroll, payables, billing or hosted accounting without evidence. The answer is a SOC 1 report, which is an attestation by a licensed CPA firm rather than a certificate. Whether it is needed is the customer's auditor's call.

How does a Type 1 SOC 1 report differ from Type 2?

A Type 1 report gives an opinion on whether controls are suitably designed at a point in time. A Type 2 report adds testing of whether they operated effectively over a period, and customers' auditors normally prefer it. The CPA firm sets the examination approach.
