ISO 17025 accreditation in Nuremberg at a glance
Measurement is Nuremberg's craft. The city lists measurement and control technology and automation among its industrial branches, and ECPE, the European Center for Power Electronics, has its seat here, so a lot of testing and calibration supports product development. A laboratory that wants its results accepted by customers and regulators can seek ISO/IEC 17025: impartiality, staff competence, equipment and metrological traceability, method validation, measurement uncertainty and reporting. It is an accreditation standard, so the national accreditation body assesses the laboratory for defined methods rather than Sterling. Served from Sterling's Frankfurt office, Sterling prepares the laboratory and documents the system. National accreditation arrangements are described on the Germany page.

ISO 17025 in Nuremberg: questions clients ask
Which Nuremberg laboratories typically seek ISO 17025?
Independent and in-house laboratories that test or calibrate for customers who want accredited results, such as electronics, energy equipment and instrument makers. Confirm with your customers whether accreditation is a contract term, then agree with the accreditation body which methods you want covered.
Can a manufacturer's in-house test room be accredited?
Yes, the standard applies to internal laboratories too, if they want independent recognition of competence for defined methods. Most do so when customers or regulators ask for accredited results. Otherwise a controlled, calibrated test room under ISO 9001 may be enough.
