In short

NIS2 compliance in Hamburg at a glance

Ports, airports, digital providers and manufacturers are all categories that NIS2 draws into formal cybersecurity duties, and Hamburg has them concentrated. The Port of Hamburg and Hamburg Airport are transport infrastructure, the logistics and IT firms around them are suppliers to regulated entities, and Airbus and industrial manufacturers may fall within manufacturing categories. Germany applies the directive through the amended BSI Act, which requires risk-management measures and registration with the BSI for entities in scope, as the Germany page explains. A Hamburg organisation should first work out whether it counts as a particularly important or an important entity, then close gaps in governance, incident handling, supply-chain security and continuity. Sterling runs the gap analysis from its Frankfurt office and builds the programme, using ISO 27001 as a framework where it fits.

NIS2 in Hamburg: questions clients ask

How can a Hamburg port-services company tell if NIS2 applies?

Start by matching what the company does and how large it is against the sector lists in Germany's NIS2 implementation, the amended BSI Act. Port services, logistics platforms and digital support for transport all need a look. Group structure matters, and registration is separate, so ask counsel or the BSI where it is unclear.

What happens if a Hamburg supplier is outside NIS2 but serves regulated customers?

Its regulated customers must manage supply-chain risk, so they may impose security requirements by contract even if the supplier is outside the law's scope. An ISO 27001 certificate or similar evidence often satisfies those requests. Read the customer's security schedule carefully.
