In short

ISO 17025 accreditation in Guangzhou at a glance

Guangzhou's trade, manufacturing and new therapies all depend on measurements that someone else must trust. The Airport Economic Zone's key-industry catalogue lists third-party laboratory projects under quality-inspection technology services, Huangpu and the Guangzhou Development District added 570 industrial projects in 2025, and Nansha is building cell and gene therapy production. Laboratories serving those customers meet ISO/IEC 17025, the standard on competence, impartiality and consistent operation for testing and calibration laboratories. It is accreditation, granted after assessment by an accreditation body, that recognises that competence, and the national position is on the China page. Sterling prepares Guangzhou laboratories for assessment from its Shanghai office, with method validation, uncertainty and traceability at the centre.

What ISO 17025 requires

Staff are competent and authorisedEach person who performs, reviews or reports work is qualified, trained, monitored and authorised for those tasks.
Equipment is calibrated and traceableEquipment is fit for purpose and calibrated, with measurement results traceable to recognised references.
Methods are validated or verifiedMethods suit the work, are validated where needed or verified before use, and measurement uncertainty is evaluated.
Results are checked and reported properlyQuality control and proficiency testing confirm validity, and reports state results clearly, accurately and without ambiguity.
The management system worksComplaints, nonconforming work, risks, internal audits and management review run under a documented management system.

ISO 17025 in Guangzhou: questions clients ask

Does the airport zone catalogue make ISO 17025 compulsory for laboratories?

No. The catalogue encourages third-party laboratory projects as an activity the zone wants, but it does not set an accreditation rule. Accreditation is granted by an accreditation body after assessing technical competence, and customers decide how much weight to give it. Check scope requirements with the body and with your largest customers.

What do Guangzhou testing laboratories prepare first for ISO 17025?

Most start with a gap review covering impartiality, staff competence, equipment calibration and method validation. Traceability of measurements and the uncertainty behind each reported result then need real evidence. Building them into daily practice, not into binders prepared before the assessment, makes the work smoother and the results more defensible.
