Does ISO 27701 show PIPEDA compliance for a Toronto company?

No. ISO 27701 supports privacy governance, but it is a management system certificate, not a finding of legal compliance. PIPEDA obligations remain yours, and the Canada page covers them. Do I need ISO 27001 before ISO 27701?

Practically yes. ISO 27701 extends ISO 27001 with privacy-specific controls and guidance, so it is normally implemented on top of an ISMS, or alongside one. A Toronto firm without an ISMS can build both together, which saves duplicated risk assessments and internal audits.
