What the ISO 31000 readiness check covers
The check measures your organisation against the guidance in ISO 31000:2018 in sixteen questions, grouped into four areas: Principles, leadership and integration; Framework design, implementation and evaluation; Scope, context, criteria and risk assessment; and Treatment, monitoring and reporting. Each answer is scored and weighted; the questions marked “Double weight” are the ones a governance or risk reviewer examines first.
What you get
A readiness report by e-mail: an overall score with one of four readings — Well prepared, Nearly there, Gaps to close or Starting out — your score for each area, the priority actions, a suggested order of work and the full answer table, and the typical next step towards ISO 31000 alignment.
How to use it
Answer from evidence rather than intention: if something exists on paper but is not operating, score it as not operating. Share the report with the people who own each area, and use the ISO 31000 hub for the guidance, the route to ISO 31000 alignment and what it costs.
Questions people ask
Is the ISO 31000 readiness check free?
Yes. It is free, takes about ten minutes and has no obligation. When you finish, your readiness report is sent to you by e-mail.
Can we be certified to ISO 31000?
No. ISO 31000 provides guidelines, not requirements, and cannot be used for certification, so there is no ISO 31000 certificate, and this check is a self-assessment against the guidelines. Your management, your internal auditors or an independent reviewer can evaluate the framework; Sterling's expert and experienced consultants help organisations design and run it.
Why take a readiness check if there is no ISO 31000 certificate?
Because boards, clients and reviewers often want to know how well you follow ISO 31000. The check shows where your practice matches the guidelines and what to strengthen first; a Sterling review can then examine the evidence with you. It does not lead to a certificate.
What is in the ISO 31000 readiness report?
An overall score with one of four readings (Well prepared, Nearly there, Gaps to close or Starting out), your score for each area, the priority actions, a suggested order of work and the full answer table, and the typical next step towards ISO 31000 alignment.
How should we answer the questions?
Answer from evidence rather than intention: if something exists on paper but is not operating, answer accordingly. Where you are unsure, choose “Not sure”; it is scored as a gap so it appears among the priorities.
What happens after I receive my ISO 31000 report?
Share it with the people who own each area and start with the priority actions. If you want help with the result, a Sterling consultant can walk through it with you in a free discovery call.
