In short

ISO 37301 certification in Boston at a glance

Compliance in Boston's regulated industries is a stack: federal rules, state rules, City ordinances such as BERDO, hospital contract clauses and funder conditions, each with its own owner and calendar. ISO 37301 turns that stack into a management system with a register of obligations, a compliance risk assessment, defined responsibilities, monitoring, reporting channels and a way to correct failures. It does not say which laws apply; counsel does. What it does is make sure nothing falls between departments. Healthcare, life sciences and property organisations are the natural users. Sterling's New York office builds the register and assessment with legal and operations teams and prepares the system for an accredited certification body's audit. Local questions follow.

ISO 37301 in Boston: questions clients ask

What problem does ISO 37301 solve for a Boston life sciences company?

It replaces scattered tracking of obligations with a single system: a register of legal and contractual duties, a risk assessment, assigned owners, monitoring and corrective action. For a company answering to several regulators and many hospital contracts, that makes gaps visible to management before an auditor finds them.

Is certification to ISO 37301 compulsory in Massachusetts?

No. It is a voluntary international standard, and no Boston or Massachusetts authority requires the certificate. Boards and clients may ask for it as evidence that compliance is managed. Which laws apply to a particular company is a question for counsel.
