AS9100 certification in Ekurhuleni at a glance
Does an Isando machine shop belong in the aerospace supply chain? The City of Ekurhuleni lists aerospace beside advanced manufacturing and bio-life sciences as sectors its Aerotropolis plan wants to attract around OR Tambo International Airport, and the industrial triangle next door already holds metalworkers with the right equipment. AS9100 is where that ambition meets paperwork. It takes the ISO 9001 system and adds configuration management, product safety, prevention of counterfeit parts, control of special processes and on-time delivery performance. Sterling builds the system with your production and quality leads, aligns it with what your aerospace customers ask for, and prepares you for an accredited certification body. Served from Sterling's Johannesburg office.

AS9100 in Ekurhuleni: questions clients ask
Does the Aerotropolis plan mean local suppliers need AS9100?
No. The plan names aerospace as a target sector, but it does not set a certificate requirement for suppliers. The expectation comes from the aerospace manufacturer or maintenance organisation you want to supply, and it usually arrives in a supplier questionnaire. Ask the customer which edition and which scope they expect before you invest in a system.
What do aerospace customers look for that ISO 9001 alone does not give them?
They look for control over configuration, product safety, counterfeit parts, special processes and delivery performance, none of which ISO 9001 spells out. A machine shop in the Ekurhuleni industrial triangle usually already has the equipment, so the gap tends to sit in traceability records, risk reviews and supplier flow-down.
