In short

ISO and GRC certification in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines at a glance

Certification demand across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines follows regulators and export buyers more than any national scheme. The Financial Services Authority supervises international and non-bank financial services and, through its Guidelines for Virtual Assets Businesses, points registrants to ISO 27001 style controls. The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and the Eastern Caribbean Securities Regulatory Commission cover banks, payments and securities. A five-year seafood inspection plan from the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine and Land Conservation and Climate Resilience aims at European Union market re-entry, which keeps HACCP and ISO 22000 on processors' agendas, while the Department of Labour has a new occupational safety and health Act awaiting proclamation. The Bureau of Standards writes national standards, and the Public Procurement Act 2018 governs Government buying. The IAAC and ILAC lists name no local accreditation body, so certificates usually carry accreditation from another economy. Sterling's New York office serves clients on site where the work needs it and remotely otherwise, with 8,100+ client engagements in 60+ countries, 20+ years, and Effivity and Sterling Academy included. An accredited certification body issues the certificate.

Accreditation and recognition

  • Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Bureau of Standards (SVGBS): National standards body: established by the Standards Act No. 70 of 1992 (amended by Act No. 28 of 2001) as a corporate body with authority to prepare and promote standards for goods, services, processes and practices; its site calls standardisation its core function and says it operates the WTO TBT enquiry point and the Codex Alimentarius focal point.
  • CARICOM Regional Organization for Standards and Quality (CROSQ): Regional standards organisation implemented in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines law by the CARICOM Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality Act (No. 33 of 2004); its site lists the Bureau of Standards as its national member body and explains accreditation for laboratories against ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 15189; IAAC lists it as an associate member.

Look for a certification body whose accreditation scope covers your standard and sector, from a national accreditation body recognised under the international arrangements of Global ACI (Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA). Sterling does not certify.

Tenders and procurement

  • Central government and statutory body procurement (Public Procurement Act 2018 (No. 34 of 2018); Ministry of Finance, Central Procurement Office and Central Procurement Board): The Act applies to every department of the Government and statutory body. Technical specifications are to be based, to the extent practicable, on national technical regulations or recognised national standards and otherwise on relevant international standards; evaluation criteria may include quality-based criteria such as the experience, reliability and professional and technical competence of the bidder and its personnel; and a bidder must not offer improper inducements or engage in corrupt or fraudulent practice. The Act names no ISO management system standard, so each tender sets its own evidence. The Central Procurement Portal publishes tenders, award notices and reports.

Questions Saint Vincent and the Grenadines clients ask

Does Saint Vincent and the Grenadines have its own accreditation body for certification bodies?

None appears in the international lists. IAAC's full and associate member pages and ILAC's category list show no accreditation body for the country, whose Bureau of Standards has a standards role. A management system certificate for a local site therefore usually rests on accreditation granted in another economy. Ask each certification body for its accreditation certificate and scope before you sign.

Who writes national standards in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines?

The Bureau of Standards, set up under the Standards Act No. 70 of 1992 as amended in 2001. The Act lets it prepare and promote standards for goods, services, processes and practices. The Bureau also runs the national WTO TBT enquiry point and the Codex Alimentarius focal point. Voluntary standards sit alongside compulsory technical regulations, so check which type applies to your product.

Does Government procurement in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines require ISO certification?

Not under the Public Procurement Act 2018, which names no ISO management system standard. It applies to every Government department and statutory body, bases specifications on national or international standards where practicable, and allows evaluation on experience, reliability and technical competence. Each tender states its own evidence, so read the bidding documents and ask the procuring entity.

What shapes seafood safety expectations for exporters?

Government policy on seafood is set out in a five-year development plan for sanitary and inspection services. Its long-term aim is a return to the European Union fish market, and it examines legislation, official controls, laboratories and fishing operations. Separately, the Government's business pages say processors are investing in facilities that meet HACCP standards.

Is workplace safety law changing?

Yes, according to the Department of Labour: a new Occupational Safety and Health Act has been passed and awaits proclamation. Until then the 1952 notification statute still obliges employers to report serious accidents and suspected occupational disease to the Labour Commissioner in writing. An ISO 45001 system supports either regime; confirm commencement with the Department before relying on the new provisions.

What cyber expectations apply to virtual asset businesses?

The FSA's Guidelines for Virtual Assets Businesses ask for an annual independent cybersecurity audit, a pre-operation IT audit covering penetration testing and disaster recovery, encryption and access controls, and IT governance aligned with best practice such as ISO 27001, led by a designated chief information security officer. Confirm the current text and your registration conditions with the FSA.
