ISO and GRC certification in Nauru at a glance
RONLAW, the government's legislation site, publishes Nauru's laws in English, and recent Acts print the country as Naoero. Several of them shape demand for ISO and GRC work. The Food Safety Act 2005 registers food business premises with the Department of Health, and the Fisheries Management Act 2024 makes an export licence for commercial fish depend on a catch certificate and a seafood health certificate. The Environmental Management and Climate Change Act 2020 requires an environmental impact assessment report before substantial development projects, and the Building Control Act 2025 registers building constructors. The Naoero Cybersecurity Act 2026 sets up the Naoero Cybersecurity Authority and, in Part 8, data protection duties for public bodies and operators of critical information infrastructure. Demand comes from phosphate and other State-owned enterprises, fisheries, food importers, construction, banking and virtual asset services, and government suppliers. Certificates for Nauruan organisations normally carry accreditation from a body in another economy within the international arrangements, and accredited certification bodies issue them, never Sterling. Sterling's Sydney office serves Nauruan clients on site and remotely, with 8,100+ client engagements in 60+ countries, 20+ years of practice, and Effivity and Sterling Academy included with every engagement.

Accreditation and recognition
Look for a certification body whose accreditation scope covers your standard and sector, from a national accreditation body recognised under the international arrangements of Global ACI (Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, formerly the IAF MLA). Sterling does not certify.
Tenders and procurement
- Public procurement under Part 3A of the Public Finance (Control and Management) Act 1997 (the Secretary for Finance, who prepares and publishes the procurement manual, and the procurement agent engaged to conduct procurement operations for public authorities): Part 3A sets objectives of value for money, ethical and fair treatment of participants, and probity, accountability and transparency. A procurement agent conducts procurement operations for public authorities, including State-owned enterprises such as RONPHOS, Nauru Utilities Corporation and Nauru Air Corporation, under a procurement manual that the Secretary for Finance publishes. Each tender sets its own qualification criteria.

Questions Nauru clients ask
Who regulates food safety in Nauru?
The Department of Health does under the Food Safety Act 2005. All food business premises, including importers and exporters, are registered with the Department before they operate, and a food inspector inspects them before a business licence is granted. Operators keep procedures that make food safe and apply good hygienic practices. The Act names no certification scheme, so ask the Department how it applies to your premises.
What does exporting fish from Nauru require?
An export licence, and for commercial consignments the licence is not issued without a catch certificate and a seafood health certificate. Under the Fisheries Management Act 2024 the Competent Authority within the Nauru Fisheries and Marine Resources Authority verifies licensed fish processing establishments and gives importing countries official assurances. Importing-country authorities and buyers may add requirements of their own.
Does Nauru have a data protection law?
Data protection duties appear in Part 8 of the Naoero Cybersecurity Act 2026. They bind public bodies, operators of critical information infrastructure and other prescribed entities, who must protect personal data with reasonable technical and organisational measures and notify the Naoero Cybersecurity Authority of harmful breaches. The Part does not reach every business, so take legal advice on how it applies to you.
In what language are audits run in Nauru?
English in most cases; Naoero comes in for interviews when staff prefer it. The national language is Naoero, yet the statutes, product labelling and company paperwork read in English. When you apply, fix the audit language, interpreter arrangements and the language for controlled documents with your certification body, since it can only send auditors who speak what the work needs.
How does Nauru procure goods and services for government?
Through a procurement agent that conducts procurement operations for public authorities under Part 3A of the Public Finance (Control and Management) Act 1997, using a manual the Secretary for Finance publishes. The objectives are value for money, fair treatment and transparency. Each tender sets its own qualification criteria, so read the bid documents for any certificate requested.
Which accreditation do certificates for Nauruan organisations carry?
Normally accreditation from a body in another economy, within the international mutual recognition arrangements of Global ACI. Choose a certification body whose accreditation covers your standard and sector, and confirm that your buyer or regulator accepts it. Sterling prepares the management system; the accredited certification body audits and decides.
