Shah Alam is home to the body that develops Selangor's industrial and business centres. The Selangor State Development Corporation, a statutory body and development agency for the state, has its headquarters here, and Invest Selangor requires manufacturers to obtain a No Objection Letter from the state before a manufacturing licence is granted. Within reach are Subang Airport, one of two aerospace ecosystems that Malaysia Airports said in May 2026 host more than 30 per cent of Malaysia's aerospace operators, the Selangor Aero Park at KLIA Aeropolis, and the Port Klang Free Zone, a 1,000-acre zone beside the port. The Department of Statistics Malaysia reported that manufacturing was 29.1 per cent of Selangor's economy in 2024. National law and accreditation are covered on the Malaysia page. Sterling serves Shah Alam from its Kuala Lumpur office, with 20+ years of experience, 8,100+ client engagements in 60+ countries, and Effivity and Sterling Academy in every engagement.

Questions Shah Alam clients ask
Who looks after ISO and GRC work for Shah Alam organisations?
Sterling's Kuala Lumpur office serves Shah Alam organisations, travelling to Selangor sites for readiness stages that need a physical presence and running the remaining workshops online. Effivity and Sterling Academy come with the engagement, while the certificate itself is issued by whichever accredited certification body you appoint.
What does a Selangor manufacturer need from the state before its manufacturing licence?
A No Objection Letter from the Selangor State Government. Invest Selangor says MITI or MIDA requires it once a company holds a Letter of Manufacturing Licence Approval, and the application attaches a local authority business licence and a certificate of fitness. An ISO certificate is not on that list. Check the current form with Invest Selangor.
Does the aerospace cluster around Subang drive AS9100 demand in Shah Alam?
It creates a customer base, not a rule. Malaysia Airports reported in May 2026 that its Subang and KLIA ecosystems host more than 30 per cent of Malaysia's aerospace operators, and the Selangor Aero Park plans engine test, maintenance and supply-chain activity. Any AS9100 request still comes from the customer's supplier terms.
What is the Port Klang Free Zone and who uses it?
It is an integrated 1,000-acre free commercial and industrial zone beside Port Klang, set up for international cargo distribution and consolidation. Distributors, consolidators and manufacturers that move goods through it answer to customers on quality, safety and continuity, which is why ISO 9001 and continuity work are common requests. The zone sets no certificate rule itself.
