In short

IATF 16949 certification in Fukuoka at a glance

Fukuoka Prefecture runs a project called the Northern Kyushu Automotive Industry Green Advanced Hub, with subsidies for technology development, prototypes and capital investment, and it keeps a location map and database of automotive and car-electronics companies. That is a prefectural initiative covering the wider region rather than the city itself, but it shows where automotive demand comes from for Fukuoka suppliers. IATF 16949 is the automotive quality standard, adding product-approval, core-tool and customer-specific requirements to ISO 9001. Served from Sterling's Tokyo office, Sterling starts with the customer's requirements and builds a plan that suits tier-one, tier-two or sub-supplier status, with records held in Effivity.

IATF 16949 in Fukuoka: questions clients ask

Is the Northern Kyushu automotive project a reason to hold IATF 16949?

The project funds development, prototypes and capital investment, and maps companies; it does not require certification of anyone. IATF 16949 is demanded by automotive customers of their own suppliers. Use the project for support and the customer's manual to settle the certification question.

What do Fukuoka sub-suppliers need to know before starting IATF 16949?

Check whether the customer requires the full certificate or accepts a supplier assessment, because scope and rules differ by customer. Many sub-suppliers need only ISO 9001, and some are asked for nothing formal at all. Settling this early prevents building the wrong system.
